For those who don't know, HAIKU is an operating system designed from the ground up to behave and work exactly like the once great BeOS. The operating system is the software that powers your computer, so your computer is only as powerful and capable as the operating system. BeOS was a very powerful and capable operating system for it's time. Even today, popular operating systems like Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows are no where near as powerful as BeOS.
HAIKU's goal is to be just as great and better than BeOS, and this first alpha release shows great progress. I invite everyone to give it a try, just for curiosity. Download the free VMWare Player from VMWare's website. Then download the VMware image for the HAIKU alpha. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Go ahead, try it.
HAIKU has potential. I like Ubuntu (Linux), but I believe that HAIKU has the "right stuff" to displace Linux some time in the future. HAIKU has speed, integration, and most importantly, just works. Years from now, I see HAIKU the "3rd option". Watch out Linux!
